Wednesday, December 28th: Chrysalis: Live music+art at Casbah

It's going to be a very memorable evening, indeed. This Wednesday, December 28, 2011 we hold space for "Chrysalis," a live music and art event featuring IrRAdio, Subsurfer and The Amalgamated at the Casbah in San Diego.

In addition to three hot local bands, we also have live art and displays by Anna Zappoli, Lana Chromium, Nick Bahula, Terry Gillard, Tiffany Nakanishi and Jimmy Ovadia. So come on out and support local music and artists, celebrate the onset of a new season and the new beginnings that are only moments away.

Tickets are available in advance at www.casbahmusic.com for $8 in advance and $10 the evening of the show.

It has been a blessing and a pleasure to have worked throughout the 2011 year with so many talented people: wonderful artists, musicians and visionary venues who have helped to make these events possible. I am truly grateful to everyone who has supported these events in so many ways. Thank you so much for helping to make this work possible.

Ready to Produce Another Festival!

Irradio to Perform at The Soda Bar with Sleep Lady and Gran Sasso, Friday, November 18.

After seeing Irradio for the first time at the Casbah during Labor Day Weekend, I am very excited and enthusiastic to see them perform again. Sleep Lady is also one of my favorite bands and it will be great to see this line up with the addition of Gran Sasso (whom I have not seen before). Tickets are on sale now at www.sodabarmusic.com.

I am grateful to know about these local bands such as Irradio that are making such a positive impact through sound vibrations, words and intentions.

I r R A d i o

When your band has two lead guitarists, it's a safe bet you're going to attract more metal heads than mopers. When the members of Irradio were asked to describe their music, singer/guitarist Dan Dasher - the only member to survive all Irradio incarnations - said "blues-punk," Formed in 1999, Irradio recorded 2002's Semantic Noise at Sweet Sound Studios, and 2004's Make-Up for the Inaugurated, with Ben Moore (Hot Snakes, Rocket from the Crypt) at Signature Sound. The Sexy Wolf demos were released in 2006 on Lola Records. Their music has appeared on the Discovery Channel's Urban Explorers; Tony hawks '08 Loop Challenge, Afro-punk’s 2010 release of “Let’s get free,” and on compilation CDs (Insound, Magnet, and Amp). Irradio has shared the bill with some of today’s amazing artist: Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Saul Williams, Living Colour, and Black Heart Procession, also adding promising inroads through Canada, U.S. and Mexico early in the bands life.

After a 2006 split, Irradio announced it was reforming in late 2008. Front man Dan Dasher chose to finish writing the songs that became Irradio's third album. New comers Steven Welker (Sax) and the driving Bass lines of Rick Blare catapulted the band to a new sound. In 2009, Irradio released I Am the Horn, on local Blind spot Records (Staring at the Sun, etc.), and produced by Mitch Wilson (No Knife). It won Best Rock Album at the 2009 San Diego Music Awards. That year also noted the first time the band was invited to perform at SXSW on a bill that showcased new emerging artist sponsored by afropunk.com.

With a history of music guided by current events and travel irradio is taking their sound to a new level that represents the power of freedom in 2011.

About the North Trio:

North Trio is a young jazz group in San Diego who combine elements of straight-ahead jazz, hip/hop jazz, and afrobeat influences. The group combines elegance with youthful energy in their eclectic mix of originals, jazz standards, and arrangements. Formed in 2011, the group consists of guitarist Dillon Casey (who has studied with classical guitar virtuoso Celin Romero and jazz guitar luminary Peter Sprague), bassist Tim McNalley (just out of high school and the son of bassist/Hutchins String Consort leader Joe McNalley), and drummer/percussionist Tyler Olson. Casey and McNalley first gained attention as members of the San Diego Music Awards-winning rock group the New Archaic. All three are currently members of the In Motion Trio, who recently received the “Best Jazz” award at the 2011 San Diego Music Awards.

“Odyssey” occurs on the first and third Thursdays of the month and highlights the work of local artists; encourages support of musicians and live music while celebrating the creativity in all of us.

Sweet Indulgence Highlights from March 10th at The Turquoise

We did it! We had our second Sweet Indulgence event at The Turquoise on March 10th and it was a wonderful. Not only did we have the lovely duo LOVE AMOS perform an early set, we also had Esencia Jazz Ensemble perform and several guest musicians arrived to celebrate during this evening. Local artist True Delorenzo created a patio full of his lovely paintings, with the assistance of David Goff; Hillary Young and Quentin Anderson created live art on-site as well as featured their latest works. Daniel Hardison showed his work for the first time at this venue -- several canvases filled with his beautiful vision and Richard ChauDavis took his blurry pictures and experiential photography to an entirely different level!

Local Pacific Beach business, Sugar and Scribe, featured edible art in the form of delicious cupcakes, tarts and truffles.

The Turquoise has delicious food -- salads, appetizers and an extensive selection on the dinner menu. We tried the Risotto (which was vegetarian) with cheese, anise, and delightful flavors. You'll also want to check out the tapas menu (which are on special for happy hour -- 5-7 p.m. daily).

The next Sweet Indulgence event will be on Thursday, April 14th at 5:30 p.m. with Steve Harris (of The Styletones and Stevie and the Hi-Stax) performing an early set. You will not want to miss this evening of soul, rhythm and blues and jazz by Esencia Latin Jazz Quartet!

Look forward to more amazing local talent with LIVE art and LIVE music for our delight. The ultimate love experience.
